At Hellenic College Holy Cross, one of those organizational needs led me to become commissioned as a Massachusetts Notary Public. One of the highlights of the night was reconnecting with Sheryl (Stewart) Queen of Twist & Shake. She deserves special recognition for offering professional headshots to her staff—many of whom are high school and college students—as an employee perk. That simple gesture says a lot about the role small businesses play in our communities. Small business owners like Sheryl rarely receive enough credit for the impact they have beyond the products and services they provide. They are often the first people to teach young adults workplace professionalism, customer service, responsibility, communication, and the importance of showing up prepared. For many students, a local business is where they learn how to interact with customers, work as part of a team, solve problems, manage their time, and build confidence. Those lessons often stay with them long after they leave their first job. As someone who has spent much of my career in operations and higher education, I've seen firsthand how important those foundational experiences can be. The soft skills, work ethic, and customer service mindset developed in local businesses help prepare the next generation of professionals, leaders, and entrepreneurs. Events like this are a great reminder that strong communities are built through relationships. They are also built by local business owners who invest in their employees and create opportunities for others to grow. Thank you to the Winthrop Chamber, Blackstrap BBQ, John N. Munson of The Beacon Studio, and everyone who helped make the evening such a success. Sustainability. Land use. Building security. Institutional food services.Sometimes the assignment was essentially: figure it out. At Hellenic College Holy Cross, one of those organizational needs led me to become commissioned as a Massachusetts Notary Public. Parks and Rec fans will understand why I can no longer say that sentence without hearing Garry Gergich in my head. What started as another way to support the College became a professional credential I genuinely enjoy using. Today, mobile notary service is one of the services I offer through Marcie Moline Services. I work with individuals, families, businesses, and organizations throughout Winthrop and Greater Boston, and I can travel to a clients home, office, hospital, rehabilitation facility, assisted living community, or another convenient location. Looking back, becoming a notary also reflects something Ive learned repeatedly during my career. Some of the most useful skills we develop are not necessarily the ones listed in our job descriptions. They come from recognizing a need, learning something new, building a process, and being willing to become the resource when someone needs help.Sometimes career development begins with: “I don't know yet, but Ill figure it out.” Whats one unexpected skill, credential, or area of expertise that your career led you to develop? #ProjectManagement #Operations #NotaryPublic #ProfessionalDevelopment #SmallBusiness… more View image 77 impressions View analyticsView analytics View Marcie Moline’s profile Marcie Moline • You Project Management Professional (PMP) | Operations & Business Optimization | Mobile Notary | Helping Organizations & People Work More Effectively Sep 30 Although most of my LinkedIn posts are for my project management and operations consulting, I just want to remind all of you in the Greater Boston area that I'm commissioned in Massachusetts as a notary! … more 3 46 impressions View analyticsView analytics View Marcie Moline’s profile Marcie Moline • You Project Management Professional (PMP) | Operations & Business Optimization | Mobile Notary | Helping Organizations & People Work More Effectively Sep 24 • Edited This news about Frugal Fannie's hurts. Here's how a project manager prepares for one: When I assess risk as a project manager, I start with four questions: What could go wrong? How likely is it? How serious would the impact be? How prepared are we to respond? The same framework works surprisingly well at home and in a small business. Before this storm arrives: ✓ Identify where flooding could cause the greatest damage. ✓ Secure outdoor items before they become hazards. ✓ Charge devices and prepare for a possible outage. ✓ Decide how you'll communicate if business operations change. ✓ Address the high-probability, high-impact risks first. Risk management isn't about predicting everything that could possibly go wrong. It's about recognizing what matters most and taking reasonable action before it becomes a problem. I've broken down the process in my latest Marcie Moline Services blog post: https://lnkd.in/gG_crDr2 And this same approach isn't limited to storms. It's how I help organizations think through projects, operational risks, vendor changes, technology decisions and business processes. Has anyone here incorporated PMI Infinity into their day-to-day project work? If so, I'm curious: • What problem were you trying to solve? • Did you use it for planning, documentation, risk management, stakeholder communications, or something else? • Did it save you time? • Most importantly... did it improve the quality of your work? PMI is trying to build one that's grounded in project management standards and best practices rather than general internet knowledge. Like many project managers, I already use AI as a tool to help me organize ideas, draft documents, and think through problems. But I'm always interested in learning where purpose-built tools actually provide additional value. At what point does a project manager stop using a general AI tool like ChatGPT and start benefiting from a purpose-built tool like PMI Infinity? Or Ricardo Viana Vargas, Ph.D.'s PMOtto.ai?
